Building tall with mass timber, bolstered by techniques that make it fire-resistant and strong, presents an intriguing pathway to sustainable, dense living. Now building codes are being revisited and reformed in order to accommodate these reconfigured materials, and this session reviews many of these developments, including specifications for sprinkler requirements, allowances for exposed timber and much more. Additional benefits to the increased usage of mass timber as a structural material are also explored in this session, such as funneling economic activity back into rural communities.
